RELATIONSHIPS, FAMILY, PARENTING, MARITAL, PRE-MARITAL, AND FRIENDS

Relationships, Family, Parenting, Marital, Pre-marital, and Friends: Projects
Father & Daughter

Relationships involve common issues that usually need to be addressed in therapy. At a foundational level are two factors, usually called support/nurturance and boundaries/guidance. All relationships require nurturance to be sustained, trusting and authentic. It is out of nurturance and authenticity then that needed boundaries may be established and guidance may be provided between parties.

Both of these factors require communication (thus communication skills) and both of them are impacted by
each person’s history (including similarities and differences across many issues), health and unique circumstances and developmental needs.

Our relationships all happen within a time and place, so larger social, economic, and cultural systems need to be considered in any relational counseling. Finally, though we often wish, much of our relationships cannot be changed. Yet understanding and acceptance may allow us to adapt with healthier boundaries and expectations within relationships and this can be very helpful in decreasing relationship stress and improving relationships.
